Practitioner Only Supplements

Complementary medicines, including vitamins, minerals, probiotics, nutritional supplements and more, are regulated in Australia by the Therapeutic Goods Administration. Some of these therapies are classified as ‘practitioner-only supplements’. They are not available freely for purchase at your local chemist in the way most food-grade supplements are.

Practitioner-only supplements are often stronger than over-the-counter options. Sometimes they are delivered in a different format – perhaps a liquid or a spray rather a tablet. Sometimes they contain combinations of different nutrients. These characteristics can make them more effective, and allow individualised support, but can also mean more risk of an adverse reaction.

At PIM, we primarily provide practitioner-only supplements.

Before supplying any supplements, we conduct a full consultation to understand your current and past health concerns. We use this information to assess what may be beneficial for you, as well as to determine risks. We discuss options with you to formulate a treatment plan. This may or may not include practitioner-based supplements. It will always include monitoring and review of results.

Our process is the same whether we supply practitioner-only-supplements or not. It is designed to ensure a thorough understanding of your individual circumstances and to put your health first.

Our clinic supports many patients in regional and rural locations, as well as locally. We can send supplements out to existing patients directly – let us know what works best for you.

FAQs about Practitioner-Only Supplements

Qualified healthcare professionals such as naturopaths, nutritionists, dietitians, doctors, and some pharmacists can prescribe practitioner-only supplements. These professionals must consult and assess your health needs before recommending any supplements.

Practitioner-only supplements are often more potent or designed for faster absorption. Whether they will be more effective depends on your condition and the supplement, hence the need for consultation.

As with any supplement, you may experience side effects. We discuss this with you when formulating a treatment plan.
At PIM, we supply only high-quality supplements and we monitor all patients regularly.

Some practitioner-only supplements interact with some medications. This is why we require a full consultation and a full health history before creating your treatment plan.
