Treatment of chronic conditions tends to focus on managing symptoms. There are two main ways to do this:
- the conventional medical approach is to prescribe pharmaceuticals which treat symptoms rather than causes
- the integrative medicine approach investigates factors driving the symptoms. Lifestyle, dietary choices and your individual metabolism can all have an impact. You may be lacking in a nutrient, or unable to absorb it. Or perhaps your system is more than usually sensitive to something, and you need to cut it out.
Integrative medicine and conventional medicine can work together to reduce symptoms for many chronic conditions. At PIM we have seen positive results for patients with conditions including:
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Asthma
- Back pain
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome
- Digestive issues
- Hashimoto’s disease and other thyroid conditions
- Hormonal imbalances, including symptoms of PMS and menopause
- Mood issues and imbalances
- Autoimmune conditions
- Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
- Long Covid and other post-viral conditions
Treating chronic conditions
While it may not be possible to cure a chronic condition, reducing symptoms, or even eliminating some of them, can improve quality of life significantly. That’s what we try to achieve for all our patients at PIM.
Rather than simply prescribe pills, we investigate what’s happening for you as an individual. We take a detailed medical history at first consultation, explore options and often prescribe a range of tests to dig deeper into what’s behind your symptoms.
