Chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia have many symptoms in common: chronic pain, sever fatigue, anxiety and disrupted sleep. There is no simple test for either condition, let alone a simple, straightforward cure.
The root causes of chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia are also unclear. Potential causes include viral infections; immune system issues; hormonal imbalance, and physical or emotional trauma.
If you’re living with one of these conditions, your priority is probably to reduce your symptoms and improve the quality of daily life. You may also find that your symptoms fluctuate over time.
While there are medication options available, for many people drugs alone do not deliver a significant positive result.
Treating chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia
At PIM, our approach is focused less on medication and more on understanding and managing underlying causes. That relates both to what triggered your condition in the first place, and to what causes symptoms to flare up.
We start with a comprehensive clinical history to help us understand the history and progress of your condition. We may recommend various tests to gain more understanding. For example, food intolerances might be making your immune system more sensitive, or we may want to check for hormonal imbalances.
When we have as clear a picture as possible of what is happening in your body, we review that with you and work out a treatment plan together. Depending on your personal situation, we may recommend nutritional changes, supplements, nutrient injections or other treatment options.
Chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia are challenging conditions. Different people respond differently to their illness and to treatment. We work with you to monitor results and modify treatment in response to your individual situation.
