Stress And Mood

Given the flood of recent research into the connection between the gut microbiome and the brain, it’s no surprise that nutrition and digestion can play a huge factor in stress and mood disorders. Whether it’s poor diet, problems absorbing particular nutrients, or an inability to use those nutrients, the end result is imbalances which affect your mood and your wellbeing.

The integrative medicine approach to stress and mood

There are multiple different physical, mental and environmental imbalances which can contribute to stress and mood disorders. At Professional Integrative Medicine, we commit time and effort to identifying the underlying root causes for you as an individual. Our goal is to prevent or minimise the initial imbalance, rather than to add a medication to adjust it.

During an initial consultation we explore your current health situation and your medical history, looking for patterns and other clues about root causes. We often recommend testing, which may confirm or rule out a theory formed about those causes.

The next step is to draw up a treatment plan, in full consultation with you as the patient, to address the issues identified. Plans are tailored to you specifically and may include one or more of:

  • Supplements to assist with reducing inflammation; production of neurostransmitters and more
  • Prebiotics and/or probiotics to improve the health and balance of your gut microbiome
  • Injectable nutrients to address deficiencies or malabsorption issues
  • A nutritional consultation and dietary changes to support a healthier lifestyle and better overall wellbeing in the long term

The body is a complex and flexible machine able to adapt to many different environments. We work with you to understand your own body and help you give everything it needs to heal itself and function optimally.
